In the world of ‘Brand Design’, what is the real ‘Strategy’?

One of the most important steps in creating a successful company is honing in on who your potential clients and audience will be. Before you can think about how to structure the perfect advertising and marketing strategies, you first need to understand the psychology behind brand design and awareness.
There are many elements that come into play when designing things for a business such as a catchy logo, memorable company slogan or even the promotions you shall have to grab your clients attention. However the final result shall define two main functions of your brand.
 
With that being said, think about what is the first brand that comes to mind when you hear the following words:
  •  Soda
  •  Watch
  •  Car
  •  Fast food restaurant
  •  Shoes
Before I give you my answers, let’s first look at some statistical facts.
Based on Forbes “World’s Most Valuable Brands” (list of the top 100 most valuable brands today) you can see the logo of each company along with the company name and worth of each one.
Now look through that list. Do you see any of your answers to the question above on that list? More than likely so. Now let’s as ourselves why is that? What made these companies so successful and brought the value of each of one to reach in the multi billions of dollars. The simple answer my friends is ‘Branding Design and Strategy’.
Of course there is much more to it than just that, however the basis of each company started with a vision, a though out design (and possibly a redesigned) logo as well as a strategy for each one to attract and keep the attention of consumers and customers worldwide.
Now, my answers to the question of which brand I think of when I hear the given words are:
  • Soda – Coke
  • Watch – Rolex
  • Car – Mercedes
  • Fast Food Restaurant – McDonalds
  • Shoes – Nike
However, just because those are the brands that come into mind, it doesn’t mean those are the brands that I use or stay loyal to.
If I had to choose my ‘favorite’ or the brand that I use and like most as opposed to what I think of when I hear each item, my answer would look something like this:
  • Soda – Pepsi
  • Watch – Audemars Piguet
  • Car – Infiniti
  • Fast Food Restaurant – PDQ (amazing salads and chicken)
  • Shoes – Nike

By definition, ‘Brand Identity’ is what a consumer or the outside world can see, touch, feel, taste and hear. It is when our human senses come into play. However, ‘Brand Loyalty’ is when the consumer or customer shall be and stay loyal to a particular brand no matter what the product may be. The loyal customers stick it through with the brands that they love because the successful mission of touching and reaching the consumers heart has been accomplished. 

Final moral of this story is, be sure to make a brand that customers can fall in love with how they taste, see, touch, smell and hear your brand and finally make it your mission to keep their love alive by providing the best product that the consumer will remember and stay loyal to forever!
